Genetic Counseling with Optional Genetic Testing

Family Planning / Prenatal

Without an existing genetic test result, we typically recommend “Genetic Counseling with Optional Genetic Testing” as you may be interested in learning more about genetic testing for a specific clinical area and potentially ordering a genetic test.

The service includes:

  • A 45-minute telehealth appointment with an ABGC Certified genetic counselor who specializes in reproductive health and is licensed to practice in your state.

  • A three-generation family pedigree to identify any relevant patterns of disease.

  • Education about different genetic testing options and recommendations in alignment with the most recent professional guidelines.

  • Consideration of possible test results to help aid in the decision to pursue genetic testing and prepare for any post-test healthcare decisions.

  • If applicable, coordination and ordering of genetic tests.

  • Identification of family members who may also want to consider genetic testing as well as tips on communicating this information to them.

  • Patients receive a summary of the genetic counseling session and the three-generation pedigree within two days of the completed appointment.
